Lou Dobbs headed to FOX...tonight

Lou Dobbs, the controversial former CNN host, is heading to Fox – at least for one night. He’s going to be a guest of Bill O’Reilly tonight at 8 p.m.

The O'Reilly Factor guest appearance is fueling speculation that the outspoken anchor and one of the most powerful critics of illegal immigration will soon be working full time for Fox News or Fox Business.

O'Reilly is bound to ask Dobbs about his future. I wouldn't be surprised if Dobbs breaks news during the show and announces he's joining the network.

Fox News said last week that they had not had any discussions with Dobbs. But The New York Times reported in October that the Fox Business Network was eying Dobbs for a potential position.

Apparently CNN president Jonathan Klein offered a Dobbs a choice, according to the Times: Either vent his opinions on radio and anchor an objective newscast on television OR he could leave CNN. He eventually decided to go.

It’s tough to believe that the widely popular Dobbs will not land on his feet at another network. In his last broadcast, he said only that he was considering “a number of options and directions.”

Dobbs’s show drew an average of 631,000 viewers in October, putting him in third place behind Fox News and MSNBC.

It's too bad that most members of the media -- particularly TV and radio -- have forgotten the purpose of journalism. I, like you, won't be a bit shocked if Lou announces he's joining Fox.

Really, the best move Lou could make. CNN is DEAD and after OBAMA proclaimed that "CNN" is a real "NEWS OUTLET" it has done nothing but gone down in ratings.

FOX NEWS was proclaimed "NOT A REAL NEW ORAGNIZATION" by Obama and has done nothing by SKYROCKETED to the TOP.

In all honesty, FOX is the ONLY news organization doing ANY investigative reporting and is at the TOP of it's game.

Why would LOU want to move to FOX NEWS and possibly double or triple his ratings and CASH IN like Glenn Beck?

Why is CNN alright with Reporters giving a liberal opinion, but not a conservative opinion?

Ok, some of you need a little Journalism 101. Journalism is unbiased presenation of the facts as they are discovered. Editorialism is offering an OPINION on the facts that journalism uncovers. All of the cable news sources offer both, but Fox-News is weighted more towards editorial rather than actual journalism (BTW so is MSNBC, just in the other direction). CNN is still mostly news, except HLN at night which is almost all editorial. BBC and NPR are still mostly journalism. The key is to have multiple sources of both journalism and editorialism to have an INFORMED OPINION. Oh, and people who do it for more money are just media whores.

Lets get it straight. Cable "news" channels are all about the ratings which correlate to advertising revenue.

A second point, people seek "news"/media outlets that support their opinion.

I would dare to say that people do not watch Fox "News", or the majority of the cable "news" outlets, to stay informed of current events. People watch such television for the polarizing combativeness that is displayed.

"Why is CNN alright with Reporters giving a liberal opinion, but not a conservative opinion?"

For the same reason that Fox only has concervative opinons...it's just bias of another type.

Who cares, no one ever watched him anyway.

But the difference between Fox and CNN is that Fox does not hide its bias. You'll never hear anyone on CNN admit their liberalism.

Journalism 101? Like the Newsweek COVER shown under the Sarah Palin article today that says of Ms. Palin "She's bad for the GOP - and for everybody else, too". Unbiased journalism is dead in this country. And honestly, BBC and NPR are mostly journalism? That is so far from true. If you listen to the BBC while overseas, a good 65% of it is trashing the U.S. No wonder they hate us in Europe with the tripe they are being fed. The folks at NPR never saw a handout they didn't love. Of course they love the handouts, since they live on ours as well.

Lou Dobbs' wife is a Latina born in Mexico.

Lou Dobbs was the ONLY reason I ever watched CNN. Like the rest of the mainstream media (ABC, NBC and CBS), zero investigative reporting is done and is simply a puppet/spokesperson for the liberal elected officials of our country.

Oh, and with regards to those comments that FOX only allows conservative commentary, why is it that more Independents watch FOX than any other news channel? Although it does lean more conservatively, it does so openly and does allow for dissenting opinion to occur -- something that I rarely see on any others 'news' channel.

NPR believes balance is having 2 extreme liberals and a moderate liberal discuss hot topics.

I don't have a problem with MSNBC or Fox because they clearly label their editorial portions and keep them separate. CNN mixes reporting with left-leaning commentary and attempts to pass it off as un-biased reporting.

Please explain to me how Fox News is so biased, yet their number 1 & 2 news anchors are Democrats. Of course I'm referring to Chris Wallace and Shepard Smith. The only thing that bothers me with MSNBC is that they allow Keith and “Thrill-up-my-leg” Wallace to do election coverage.

"Lou Dobbs' wife is a Latina born in Mexico."

That's her problem.

Either vent his opinions on radio and anchor an objective newscast on television OR he could leave CNN.

Well - guess we know now that Dobbs has no intention of ever being objective.. Fox"news" is the PERFECT fit for him!

I hope Lou joins FOX!! He's the one thing FOX lacks, a firm voice against all the illegals in this country.

"Lou Dobbs' wife is a Latina born in Mexico." Smart woman, married an American.

Why can't we all get along? Because we don't live in the country we were born. Instead of making their home country strong and affuluent............they move here.....the easy way out. Latinos should fight to make their own country a good place to live.

James. If Mexico was a good place to live....I'd move there!!

Like your ancestors did James?

There are few surviving traditional news organizations, and none are on TV or RADIO. It's been more than a generation or so since radio and television were deregulated. Prior to that the FCC required of them to base a percentage of their programming on local news/issues and local public affairs. most owners didnt expect to make money off those departments. They had to ascertain community leaders, organizations, and audience and "be responsive." However, all that changed when Deregulation did away with local station ownership requirements and increased opportunities for national chains to gobble up multiple media in same market. Also with deregulation news and public affairs departments were placed under programming departments, therefore, subject to ratings battles and increasing the probability of sensationalism, emotionalism, and anchor opinions. News began pushing the "emotional buttons" that would attract viewers and plain old vanilla news disappeared. Print media also reverted to their "old ways" of celebrity journalism to keep pace. Today, the back fence gossip of our grandparents is disseminated daily by our electronic media. Believe at your own risk. Trust the information ONLY if you verify with multiple sources---and then keep a healthy skepticism.
