Obama halts deportations to Haiti

In response to the tragic earthquake in Haiti, the Obama administration announced that it is halting deportations back to the devastated country.

Advocates are also calling on the federal government to grant Haitian nationals living in the United States Temporary Protected Status, which is given to nationals of countries the government deems unsafe for return.

``TPS is in the range of considerations we consider in a disaster, but our focus remains on saving lives,'' Matthew Chandler, deputy Homeland Security press secretary, said in an e-mail to El Nuevo Herald after the department announced it was halting deportations.

Too late; for some inexplicble reason the "powers that be" seem to refuse to close the flood gates on that invasion. Even if it is is illeagal to be in this country without permission and cause chaos and crime waves.

Is it a potential voters base they do not want to oust or what?

I'm glad they had the guts to do it. It's the right thing to do. While they are at it they should stop preferential treatment toward certain groups and against Haitians.

There are many diserving charities in need of help 24/7/365. I give to my charity all year, every year. Why do people think I'm mean when I don't give to Haiti? No shortage of phonies out there.

So the policy implication of this is that Haitians will pile onto unseaworthy boats/boxes/rafts and float aimlessly to South Florida. So we have Haitians again doing stupid things, risking their lives on open water to get to Miami and scatter on the beaches like cockroaches.

Why halt the deportations?

Those people should want to be back in their country helping their fellow citizens.

BO has such a skewed way of thinking and doing -

Why halt the deportations?

If these people are worth their salt they would be anxious to get back to their own country and help their fellow citizens.

B.O. has such a skewed way of thinking and acting...it's always with political implications.

Ignorance is the root of all evil, the parent of fear and is the most violent element in society. Let us all make a greater effort to understand instead of judging and learn before condemning. Lets lend a helping hand and pray that if anything like it ever happens to us we'll receive the same sympathy.....

Like the anonymous speaker said, ignorance is the root of all evil. Why are we americans so darn ignorant to other peoples plight. We are not the center of the universe, we are a part of human kind, not any better just ignorant!!!!

French speaking African-Haitians who want to become English speaking African-Americans have always always smelled a free lunch up in America and thats why for the past 50 yrs they have piled into flimsy rafts and sailed the 300 miles to the Florida coast with many living on the deserted beaches of Dade County sponging or integrating into the vast ethnic hoods of South Miami.

And now we have a reason to keep them in America plus millions more who will undoubedtly be coming here using the quake excuse and Obamas blessing of course. Gotta help da bros as you knos.

WHY has nobody BOTHERED to ask Carribean Cruises why THEY are not doing more since the OWN half of Haiti? YES, this cruise line BOUGHT over half of Haiti a few years back, yet THEY have done NOTHING to help???? Haiti sold them 1/3 of their island in hopes of getting/keeping more people working! Oh yeah, they have docked there not changing their routine? BUT WHY HAVE THEY NOT DONE SOMETHING????

Deport them anyway -- if they are here illegally. I don't care where they go. Stop being such bleeding-heart liberals giving this country away. Time to re institute the quota system and require people to have sponsors before they can come in. Our resources are taxed enough for our own citizens -- many of whom have lost their jobs and homes. Deport them to Senegal, or even the Dominican Republic which shares the island with Haiti.

THE SMUGGLERS THAT "KIDNAPPED" THOSE PRICELESS CHILDREN SHOULD DO "HARD TIME" IN HAITI FOR IGNORING THE LAWS OF THAT NATION! A COUNTRY WITHOUT BORDERS IS NOT A COUNTRY.

NOW is the time for ALL good Haitians to come to the aid of their country!!! THAT means gather up ALL the illegal invaders from there who cover south Forida and RETURN them to the country of their origin to help rebuild their homeland. Heck, I would not have a problem with deporting MEXICANS there tohelp them out. They have taken most of the construction jobs here, so they SHOULD know what to do!!!!!!

Be nice, people, or your going to disturb Franco and his editorial staff again and they'll have to write another article about how 'intolerant' you all are... LOL. Dontcha know, we're supposed to welcome the entire third world in our country! But no one addresses the issue of what happens next, after our nation becomes a third world country too. Maybe the Chinese will welcome us in... Yeah, right.

America originally got its gift of a lifetime AIDS and HIV blood disease virus in the early 80s transported from south Florida Haitians.

Ex-corrupt president Aristide acknowledged this in a speech in 1991 attributing over half of Haiti pre-mature deaths to its massive AIDS epidemic.

Be very careful if you go.

It would be nuanced if he would make them legal citizens, imho. They could help promote our outreach to the downtrodden 3rd world countries and help promote the progressive agenda. The Haitians know what it is like to be oppressed like the African American. They would be able to promote change in our system. We could use them to help promote the image of social justice that Che proposed.

All "Che" needed was a bullet in the head. These people are worthless and always have been. I got the "progressive agenda" hanging. Haiti is a cesspool because the people fail to help themselves, instead they need a constant handout. Socialism has failed everywhere , and it will fail here.

If we transferred all the Haitians to the USA and sent an equal amount of Americans to Haiti the following would happen.
Haiti - will become a wonderful tourist destination, self sufficient, I'd live there.

USA - Crime rate, unemployment rate and poverty would rise.
