Much attention is being given to a report about census data out of Mexico revealing a decline in Mexican migration to the United States. The data appears back up what many U.S. experts – and the Observer -- have been saying for months that the bad economy is slowing the flow of illegal immigration.
The New York Times reports that Mexican data show that immigration from Mexico to other countries declined by 25 percent in the year that ended in August 2008 from the preceding year. Some 226,000 fewer people immigrated from Mexico. Most come to the United States.
As with their American counterparts, Mexican researchers say the decline is largely a result of the lack of jobs in the ailing American economy.
"If jobs are available, people come," Jeffrey Passel, senior demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research group in Washington, told the paper. “If jobs are not available, people don't come."
Other researchers argue the drop in crossings from Mexico proves that tough law enforcement at the border and in American workplaces can help reduce illegal immigration.
"The latest evidence suggests that you can reverse the flow," says Steven A. Camarota, a demographer at the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates for stronger enforcement of immigration laws. "It is not set in stone, so with some mix of enforcement and the economy, fewer will come and more will go home."

Remember, when we (USA) are in a recession, there are little to no jobs for the legal and illegals.

Lets dont forget 30% of the workers today are in the bloated military as opposed to less than 5% in 1929 so real jobless rates in America could be 40-50%...
In the end all this illegals were all an unneeded fraud ...like the rigged 911 WMD lies and wars to protect Israel. Meanwhile America and the world suffer the fallout with millions of innocents dead and maimed needlessly... as Obama continues the 3rd term of Bush spying on 300 million Americans with no letup and wasting 3 trillion annually when the IRS only takes in 1.5 trillion...
In addition property values have plummetted 40-50% all across America including this area ... yet taxing authorities refuse to lower values and pretending there is no Great Depression II and even raising taxes squeezing more blood out of the turnips...
The Boston Tea Party of 1775 was over a one cent tax and this sparked the Rev War... Could anyone imagine what these early Americans would think of todays taxes that run as high as 60-70% collectively notwithstanding 100s trillion longterm debt that will run into the quadrillions soon?...
If only America could go back and erase Y2K ... and the Bush rigged mistake but then Obama wouldnt have cakewalked into the WH ... so any wonder why he loves Bush and serving his 3rd term?...

It is stupid to think that the crime rate will decrease due to less immigration. Mexicans have nothing to do with that. The crime rate will increase now that people dont have jobs. Please do some research or read about it before commenting on this site.
